Getting from Brussels Airport (BRU) to Ypres takes about 1h 30min by car on an empty road (1h 30min – 1h 50min in heavy traffic) over 133 km via E40 and E17. Our private transfer costs €270 for a car with 1–3 passengers or €330 for a van with 4–8 — the vehicle price you see is the price you pay at booking.
On arrival: The driver waits in the arrivals hall of the main Brussels Airport terminal building, just after the baggage reclaim and customs exit, holding a sign with your name. If the flight is late, the driver adjusts to the real landing time; 60 minutes of waiting are included and help with the luggage is part of the service.
Ypres (Ieper) is a small city in West Flanders, rebuilt after the First World War and best known for the Menin Gate memorial and the In Flanders Fields Museum in the Cloth Hall on the Grote Markt. The drive from the airport is about 140 km via the E40 and the E17 towards Kortrijk and then the A19. The Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate takes place every evening at 8 pm and draws crowds to the area, so traffic is restricted near the gate. The surrounding battlefields, cemeteries and memorials, such as Tyne Cot, are reached by local roads.
The centre of Ypres is small and is built around the Grote Markt, where the rebuilt Cloth Hall with the In Flanders Fields Museum stands. St Martin's Cathedral is a short walk from the square, and the Menin Gate lies at the eastern end of the old town, on the Menenstraat. The walk along the ramparts offers views of the moat. Tyne Cot, the largest Commonwealth war cemetery, is about nine kilometres north-east of the town and is reached by road. Visitor numbers peak around 11 November, when the Armistice is remembered.
Public transport instead: SNCB/NMBS train IC from Brussels Airport-Zaventem station (change at Brussels-Midi, then at Kortrijk or Ghent) to Ieper — about 2h 10min – 2h 50min, roughly hourly, 2 changes. No direct train; at least two changes via Brussels and Kortrijk or Ghent.
