Getting from Brussels Airport (BRU) to Waterloo takes about 25 min by car on an empty road (25–35 min in heavy traffic) over 25 km via R0. Our private transfer costs €110 for a car with 1–3 passengers or €140 for a van with 4–8 — the vehicle price you see is the price you pay at booking.
On arrival: The driver waits in the arrivals hall of the main Brussels Airport terminal building, just after the baggage reclaim and customs exit, holding a sign with your name. If the flight is late, the driver adjusts to the real landing time; 60 minutes of waiting are included and help with the luggage is part of the service.
Waterloo is a town in Walloon Brabant, about 20 km south of Brussels, known for the battle of 18 June 1815. The battlefield, with the Lion's Mound, the panorama and the Visitor Centre, lies a few kilometres south of the town centre, along the N5. The drive from the airport runs around the Brussels ring on the R0 and then south on the N5. The monument area has its own car parks, and the route is a drive of roughly 40 minutes, longer at rush hour. Commemorations take place around 18 June each year, with larger re-enactments in anniversary years.
The battlefield is in open farmland south of the town centre, at Braine-l'Alleud, and the Lion's Mound stands beside the Route du Lion, with the panorama rotunda and the visitor centre next to it. The Hougoumont farm, a key point of the battle, can be visited a short walk away. In the town centre, the Wellington Museum occupies the former inn where the duke wrote his dispatch, and the Royal Chapel stands on the main road. The Forêt de Soignes begins just north of town. The sites are most crowded in June.
Public transport instead: SNCB/NMBS and TEC train + bus S-train + bus W from Brussels Airport-Zaventem station (change at Brussels-Midi), then Waterloo station to Waterloo — about 50–70 min, regular, 1 change. No direct service; train via Brussels-Midi to Waterloo, then local bus to the battlefield.
