Getting from Brussels Airport (BRU) to Ypres takes about 1h 30min by car on an empty road (1h 30min – 1h 50min in heavy traffic) over 133 km via E40 and E17. Our private transfer costs €270 for a car with 1–3 passengers or €330 for a van with 4–8 — the vehicle price you see is the price you pay at booking.
On arrival: The driver waits in the arrivals hall of the main Brussels Airport terminal building, just after the baggage reclaim and customs exit, holding a sign with your name. If the flight is late, the driver adjusts to the real landing time; 60 minutes of waiting are included and help with the luggage is part of the service.
Ypres (Ieper) is a small city in West Flanders, about 130 km south-west of Brussels Airport. The route follows the E40 towards Ghent, then the E17 towards Kortrijk and the A19 to Ypres. The city is known for the Menin Gate memorial, the In Flanders Fields Museum in the Cloth Hall and the First World War cemeteries nearby, including Tyne Cot. The Last Post ceremony is held every evening at 8 pm and the roads near the gate are closed to traffic then.
Ypres was almost entirely destroyed in the First World War and rebuilt after it, and the Cloth Hall on the Grote Markt is a reconstruction. The Grote Markt, the cathedral of St Martin and the museum are within a short walk of each other, and the Menin Gate stands at the end of the Menenstraat. The ramparts give a walk around the old town. Outside the town, the cemeteries of Tyne Cot and Essex Farm and the Hill 60 site can be visited by road. The evening ceremony brings crowds throughout the year.
Public transport instead: SNCB/NMBS train IC / local from Brussels Airport-Zaventem station (change at Brussels-Midi, then at Kortrijk or Ghent) to Ieper — about 2h 10min – 2h 50min, roughly hourly, 2 changes. No direct train; change in Kortrijk.
