Meeting point: The driver waits in the arrivals hall of the terminal your flight lands at (Terminal 1 or Terminal 2), after the baggage reclaim, holding a sign with your name. Flight tracking is included, the first hour after landing is free waiting time, and the driver carries your bags to the car.
Lake Como is an Alpine lake shaped like an upside-down Y, with the city of Como at its south-western tip and villages such as Bellagio, Varenna and Menaggio on the shores. The drive from Malpensa runs on the A8 and A9 motorways to Como in about an hour. Lakefront roads such as the Strada Regina on the western shore are narrow, curvy and busy in summer, so reaching Bellagio can take much longer. Many lakeside villages have ZTL or pedestrian cores, and the driver stops as close as is allowed.
The city of Como has its lakefront at Piazza Cavour, with the cathedral a few streets behind, and a funicular rises to the hill village of Brunate. Further along the shore, Bellagio sits on the promontory that divides the two southern branches of the lake, Varenna lies on the eastern shore and Menaggio on the western one. Villa del Balbianello and Villa Carlotta can be visited on the western shore. Ferries link the towns from spring to autumn, with fewer departures in winter, when many gardens and villas are closed.
Public transport instead: Trenord train Malpensa Express + regional train from Malpensa Aeroporto (change at Milano Cadorna) to Como Nord Lago — about 1h 40min – 2h, regular, 1 change.
