The Pont du Gard is a Roman aqueduct bridge across the Gardon river, near Remoulins, about 25 km from Nîmes and 70 km from Montpellier airport. The route is the A9 to Nîmes and then the N100 or D981 towards Remoulins. The site is a protected UNESCO monument with a large car park, a museum and walking paths; vehicles do not cross the bridge, and the right-bank and left-bank car parks have separate entrances. Summer is busy at midday and the river is popular for swimming below the arches.
The Pont du Gard is a Roman aqueduct bridge in three tiers, about 49 metres high, crossing the Gardon river. A visitor centre with a museum and a shop stands on each bank, and walking paths lead through the garrigue, the scrubland around it. Swimming in the Gardon is allowed in a marked area below the bridge. The car parks are on the left bank and the right bank, and each has its own entrance. In summer the site stays busy at midday, and some evenings have light shows.
Public transport: No direct public transport; regional bus from Nîmes or Avignon.
