La Baule-Escoublac is a seaside resort on the Atlantic coast, around 75 km west of Nantes, famous for its 9 km crescent beach. The road is the N165 and the N171 or the D213, with a fast expressway to Saint-Nazaire. The seafront promenade, the Remblai, is lined with apartment buildings, and the pedestrian streets near the casino allow no cars. The summer season from July to August brings very heavy traffic on the expressway at weekends, and the beach is crowded.
La Baule's beach, the Baie de La Baule, curves for about nine kilometres, with the Remblai promenade running behind it. The casino and the Avenue du Général de Gaulle form the lively centre of the resort, and the station, La Baule-Escoublac, is about a kilometre from the beach. West of the resort lie the port of Le Pouliguen and the fishing harbour, and to the north the salt marshes of the Guérande peninsula. Pornichet, the neighbouring resort, begins at the east end of the beach. Summer is full and the resort is quiet in winter.
Public transport instead: SNCF TER / TGV train TER or TGV from Nantes (after the airport shuttle) to La Baule-Escoublac — about 60–80 min, about hourly, 1 change.
