On arrival: The driver waits in the arrivals hall of the Nantes Atlantique terminal, just after the baggage reclaim, holding a sign with your name. If the flight is late, the driver adjusts to the real landing time; 60 minutes of waiting are included and help with the luggage is part of the service.
Saint-Nazaire is a port and shipbuilding city at the mouth of the Loire, 65 km west of Nantes. The Penhoët shipyards build some of the world's largest cruise ships, and the former submarine base, a vast concrete bunker from World War II, now houses the Escal'Atlantic museum and an exhibition space. The road is the N171 expressway, which is free of tolls. The city was heavily bombed in the war and rebuilt in modern style. The seafront and the Ville-Port district are open to cars.
The shipyards of Penhoët, where cruise ships are built, lie by the port in the north of the city, and the former submarine base, now with the Escal'Atlantic museum, stands on the harbour front. Next to it is the Ville-Port district, rebuilt after the war in a grid, and the seafront promenade runs towards the beach at Sainte-Marguerite. A long bridge crosses the Loire estuary towards Saint-Brevin. The railway station is a few minutes' walk from the port. Visits to the shipyards must be booked, and the busiest season is summer.
