Ostrog Monastery is a Serbian Orthodox monastery built into a vertical cliff high above the Bjelopavlići valley and one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in the Balkans. It lies about 50 km north-west of the airport. The route passes Podgorica and Danilovgrad along the valley, then leaves the main road towards Nikšić and climbs a narrow, winding mountain road with tight bends to the lower and upper monastery. There are no tolls.
The site has two parts. The Lower Monastery, with the Church of the Holy Trinity and pilgrim accommodation, lies on the mountain road, and the Upper Monastery with the cave chapels and the relics of Saint Basil of Ostrog stands higher up the same road. Cars can reach a parking area just below the upper monastery; the last stretch is on foot. Many pilgrims walk the old footpath between the two monasteries. Visitors are expected to wear modest clothing, and the site is busiest on Orthodox feast days, especially around 12 May.
Public transport instead: BTC Zeta, MS Tours, Zejdin bus airport bus from Podgorica Airport bus stop (in front of the terminal) to Podgorica Central Bus Station (then train from the adjacent railway station to Ostrog station), 1 change. Željeznički prevoz Crne Gore (ZPCG) train Podgorica - Nikšić from Podgorica railway station to Ostrog station (in the valley below the monastery), 1 change. No direct public transport from the airport to Ostrog Monastery; ZPCG trains on the Podgorica - Nikšić line stop at Ostrog station in the valley, from where a steep mountain road climbs to the monastery.
