Private transfer, Salzburg Airport (SZG) to Kitzbuhel: the car (1–3 passengers) is €180 and the van (4–8) is €220, a set price for the vehicle that does not change at checkout. Expect 75 km on the road via B178 and B 20; about 1h 20min off-peak, 1h 20min – 1h 40min in rush hour.
Pickup: The driver waits in the arrivals hall of the airport terminal, after baggage reclaim and the customs exit, holding a sign with your name. The booking includes flight monitoring and an hour of free waiting from touchdown; your bags are loaded for you.
Kitzbühel is a town in the Tyrolean Alps, about 80 km south-west of Salzburg airport. The drive uses the A8 and the German road B21 through Bad Reichenhall and Lofer, or the A93, then the Tyrolean B161 via St. Johann, in about 1 hour 15 minutes. The route crosses the German-Austrian border twice, so border queues can occur on busy weekends. Austria requires a vignette on motorways.
Kitzbühel has a medieval centre with the Vorderstadt and Hinterstadt streets, painted house facades and the Hahnenkamm cable car on the edge. The Streif downhill, which hosts the Hahnenkamm ski races in January, is on the Hahnenkamm hill. The old centre is largely pedestrian, so the car stops at the edge, near the Hahnenkamm lift or the car park. The Schwarzsee lake is 3 km north-west. Hotels are in the centre and on the slopes.
Public transport: No direct service from the airport; the usual route is via Salzburg Hauptbahnhof and Zell am See with a regional bus or train to Kitzbühel, or through Lofer by Postbus.
