Getting from Santiago de Compostela Airport (SCQ) to Pontevedra takes about 1h by car on an empty road (60–80 min in heavy traffic) over 82 km via AP-9. Our private transfer costs €160 for a car with 1–3 passengers or €230 for a van with 4–8 — the vehicle price you see is the price you pay at booking.
On arrival: The driver waits in the arrivals hall on the ground floor (level 0) of the Santiago-Rosalía de Castro terminal, after you collect your baggage, holding a sign with your name. If the flight is late, the driver adjusts to the real landing time; 60 minutes of waiting are included and help with the luggage is part of the service.
Pontevedra is the capital of its province, set at the head of the Ría de Pontevedra between Santiago and Vigo. The drive follows the AP-9 toll motorway south past Padrón and Caldas de Reis, a stretch that roughly shadows the Portuguese Way of the Camino in the opposite direction. The N-550 is the toll-free alternative through the same towns. Pontevedra has put large parts of its centre off limits to through traffic, so the final approach uses the ring of streets around the old town.
The old town is one of the best-preserved in Galicia and is almost entirely pedestrian, with granite squares such as Praza da Ferrería, Praza da Leña and Praza de Curros Enríquez. The round Pilgrim Virgin sanctuary (Santuario da Peregrina) marks its edge, and the Museo de Pontevedra occupies several buildings nearby. Hotels lie both inside and around the historic core, so cars stop at the nearest permitted point. The beaches of Sanxenxo and the village of Combarro are a short drive west along the ría.
Public transport instead: Renfe train Media Distancia / Avant, Atlantic Axis line (A Coruña - Santiago - Pontevedra - Vigo) from Santiago de Compostela railway station (after airport bus 6A to the city) to Pontevedra railway station, 1 change. No direct public transport from the airport to Pontevedra: take bus 6A into Santiago, then a Renfe train on the Atlantic Axis line to Pontevedra.
