Los Gigantes is a small resort at the foot of the Acantilados de Los Gigantes, cliffs up to 500 m high on the west coast of Tenerife, about 50 km from the airport. The drive follows the TF-1 motorway and then mountain roads through Adeje and Santiago del Teide. The hairpin road down to the harbour at Puerto de Santiago is steep, and whale- and dolphin-watching boats leave from the harbour. The region is dry and often cloudier than the south coast.
Los Gigantes is a small resort at the foot of dramatic cliffs, with a harbour and a few streets of shops, bars and restaurants. The Puerto de Santiago town lies on the slope above, and the Playa de la Arena, a black-sand beach, is a short walk along the coast. From the harbour, boat trips run to watch pilot whales and dolphins in the channel between Tenerife and La Gomera. The Masca gorge and its village lie in the mountains above, along a famously narrow road. The area is quieter than the southern resorts, and often cooler in the evening.
