Albi is a brick-built town in the Tarn on the Tarn river, about 75 km north-east of Toulouse, with the Sainte-Cécile cathedral, the largest brick cathedral in the world, and the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum in the Palais de la Berbie. The episcopal city of Albi is a UNESCO site. The road is the A68, and the town centre is partly pedestrian with parking around the cathedral. The station is on the edge of the centre, about 1 km from the cathedral.
The Sainte-Cécile cathedral dominates Albi from the top of the old town, and next to it stands the Palais de la Berbie, a fortified bishop's palace with a garden above the river. The Pont Vieux, a medieval brick bridge, crosses the Tarn below. The old streets of the Vieil Albi, with half-timbered and brick houses, spread around the cathedral, and the Place du Vigan is the main square. The station is about a kilometre from the cathedral. Spring and summer are the main seasons, and the brick turns red in the evening light.
