Getting from Zagreb Airport (ZAG) to Opatija takes about 2h 20min by car on an empty road (2h 20min – 3h in heavy traffic) over 185 km via A6 and A1. Our private transfer costs €400 for a car with 1–3 passengers or €490 for a van with 4–8 — the vehicle price you see is the price you pay at booking.
On arrival: The driver waits in the arrivals hall of the airport terminal, after baggage reclaim and the customs exit, holding a sign with your name. If the flight is late, the driver adjusts to the real landing time; 60 minutes of waiting are included and help with the luggage is part of the service.
Opatija is a resort on the Kvarner Bay, about 180 km south-west of Zagreb airport. The drive follows the A1 and A6 motorways via Karlovac to Rijeka and then the coastal road to Opatija, taking around 2 hours. The A6 is a toll motorway. In winter, strong bora winds can close sections of the road. The final approach to Opatija follows the coast road with narrow bends.
Opatija is a 19th-century Habsburg resort with villas and grand hotels along the Lungomare, a 12 km seaside promenade that runs from Volosko to Lovran. The town has a park with the Maiden with the Seagull statue, and the Slatina beach. Most hotels are along Maršala Tita street and the seafront. The Lungomare is pedestrian, so the car stops at hotel entrances on the upper road. Rijeka is about 15 km to the north.
Public transport: No direct public service from the airport; the usual route is via Zagreb bus station and an intercity coach to Opatija via Rijeka.
