Taroudant is a walled market town in the Souss valley, about 80 km east of Agadir, between the High Atlas and the Anti-Atlas. Because the airport lies east of Agadir, the drive goes straight inland along the N10 through the farming plain and the town of Oulad Teima, with orange groves and argan trees along the way, without passing through Agadir. The road is flat and mostly straight, and the town appears behind its long ochre ramparts.
The medina is enclosed by earthen walls with several gates, such as Bab El Kasbah, and a car can enter through the main gates and reach most hotels and riads, though the souk lanes themselves are narrow. Life centres on two squares, Place Assarag and Place Talmoklate, with the souks between them. Several hotels lie just outside the walls among gardens. Summers in the valley are hot, and spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons to visit.
Public transport: There is no direct public transport from Agadir airport to Taroudant. Intercity buses to Taroudant leave from Agadir and Inezgane.
