Roquetas de Mar is the largest beach resort on the Almería coast, about 40 km south-west of the airport on the far side of the city. The route runs from the airport road onto the A-7 motorway, which bypasses Almería inland and drops towards the coast near Aguadulce, then continues on local roads through the plain of greenhouses to the town. The A-7 here has no tolls. Traffic around the Aguadulce junction can be heavy on summer weekends.
Most hotels are in the Urbanización de Roquetas de Mar, the long resort strip south of the old town along Playa Serena and Playa de la Bajadilla, with the aquarium and the golf course close by. The old fishing harbour, the Castillo de Santa Ana and the lighthouse mark the original town centre, with a promenade along the shore. Aguadulce, with its marina, lies a few kilometres north on the same coast. Hotels in the resort area have their own entrances and drop-off points on the main avenues.
Public transport instead: Surbus bus 30 (Almería - Aeropuerto - Retamar) from Almería Airport bus stop to Almería city centre (then CTAL bus M-330 to Roquetas de Mar) — about 35 min, 1 change. Consorcio de Transporte Metropolitano del Área de Almería bus M-330 (Almería - Aguadulce - Roquetas - Las Marinas) from Almería to Roquetas de Mar, 1 change. No direct public transport from the airport to Roquetas de Mar; take Surbus line 30 to Almería and change to the metropolitan bus M-330 (Almería - Aguadulce - Roquetas - Las Marinas).
