Protaras is a quieter family resort just north of Ayia Napa, about 50 km from the airport, centred on Fig Tree Bay with its shallow beach, and Cape Greco national forest park to the south. The drive follows the A3 and the B-roads through Paralimni. In season the strip of Protaras Avenue is busy with holiday traffic. Local buses run in the resort during the summer.
Protaras stretches along a single main road, Protaras Avenue, with hotels, shops and tavernas on both sides and small coves leading off it. Fig Tree Bay is the main beach, with a promenade; Sunrise, Konnos and Louma beaches lie to the north and south. Konnos Bay is reached by a small side road from the park at Cape Greco. The Agios Elias chapel sits on a hill above the resort with views over the bay. It is quieter than Ayia Napa in the evening, and most facilities close between November and March.
