Blanes is the southernmost town of the Costa Brava, where the coast of Girona province begins at the Sa Palomera rock. From the airport, about 37 km away, the route heads south on the AP-7 or the N-II through La Selva county and then turns towards the coast on local roads, entering Blanes from the north. The town is larger and more residential than its neighbours, with a fishing port that is still active. In summer, especially in late July during the international fireworks contest, the seafront is very busy.
The old centre lies between the port and the main beach, with Sa Palomera at the end of the promenade. On the hill to the east, the Marimurtra botanic garden overlooks the sea, and further along are the Pinya de Rosa gardens and small coves such as Sant Francesc. To the south-west the long sandy beach of S'Abanell stretches towards the mouth of the Tordera, lined with hotels and campsites. Blanes railway station is on the inland edge of town, a few kilometres from the beach.
Public transport: Sagalés line 605 (Canet - Calella - Blanes - Girona Airport) is listed by Sagalés as out of service, so there is currently no direct airport bus to Blanes. The closest option is Sagalés line 613 from the airport to Lloret de Mar (about 35 min) and then a local connection from Lloret to Blanes.
