Getting from Granada Airport (GRX) to Capileira takes about 1h 30min by car on an empty road (1h 30min – 1h 55min in heavy traffic) over 82 km via A-44 and A-4132. Our private transfer costs €130 for a car with 1–3 passengers or €180 for a van with 4–8 — the vehicle price you see is the price you pay at booking.
On arrival: The driver waits in the arrivals hall of the single passenger terminal at Granada-Jaén airport, after baggage reclaim, holding a sign with your name. If the flight is late, the driver adjusts to the real landing time; 60 minutes of waiting are included and help with the luggage is part of the service.
Capileira is the highest of the three white villages of the Poqueira gorge in the Alpujarra, on the southern side of the Sierra Nevada at about 1,430 m. From the airport the route goes round Granada and south on the A-44 motorway towards the coast, leaves it for Lanjarón and Órgiva on the A-348 and then climbs the narrow, winding A-4132 through Pampaneira and Bubión. The last part is slow mountain road with many hairpins, and in winter there can be snow above Pampaneira.
The village is a tight cluster of flat-roofed houses and steep lanes that are mostly too narrow for cars, so drop-offs are made on the main road at the edge of the village, near the church square and the car park. Guesthouses and rural apartments are spread along the lanes and on the slope below. Capileira is a starting point for walks in the Poqueira gorge and for the Sierra Nevada national park, and Pampaneira and Bubión are a few kilometres down the same road.
Public transport instead: Alsa bus 245 Granada Airport – Granada from Bus stop on level 0 outside the arrivals area of the terminal to Granada bus station (Estación de Autobuses, Carretera de Jaén) — about 30–35 min, timed to scheduled flights; no night service. No direct public transport from the airport: Alsa bus 245 to Granada bus station, then a regional coach to the Alpujarra villages, which runs only a few times a day.
