Sierra Nevada is Spain's southernmost ski resort, with its village Pradollano at about 2,100 m on the slopes of the Veleta, in the municipality of Monachil. From the airport the route skirts Granada on the A-92 and the GR-30 ring road and then climbs the A-395 mountain road for around 30 km through a series of bends. In winter the road can have snow and ice, and chains may be required on the upper section; on sunny ski weekends traffic builds up near the resort in the morning.
Pradollano is a compact resort village built on the slope, with most hotels and apartments within walking distance of Plaza de Andalucía and the lower stations of the gondolas that lead up to Borreguiles. Several streets are pedestrian or have limited parking, and drop-offs are made at the hotel entrances or the main access roads. The ski season usually runs from late November to spring; in summer the resort is a base for hiking and cycling towards the Veleta.
Public transport instead: Alsa bus 245 Granada Airport – Granada from Bus stop on level 0 outside the arrivals area of the terminal to Granada bus station (Estación de Autobuses, Carretera de Jaén) — about 30–35 min, timed to scheduled flights; no night service. Autocares Tocina bus Granada – Sierra Nevada from Granada bus station (Estación de Autobuses, Carretera de Jaén), platform 3 to Sierra Nevada ski resort (Pradollano), €5.00 single ticket, ski season: 3 runs on weekdays (8:00, 10:15, 17:15), 4 at weekends; outside the season 1 run a day (9:15), 1 change. No direct public transport from the airport: Alsa bus 245 to Granada bus station, then the Autocares Tocina bus to Sierra Nevada from platform 3.
