Getting from Graz Airport (GRZ) to Maribor takes about 45 min by car on an empty road (45–55 min in heavy traffic) over 59 km via A9 and A1. Our private transfer costs €160 for a car with 1–3 passengers or €230 for a van with 4–8 — the vehicle price you see is the price you pay at booking.
On arrival: The driver waits in the arrivals hall of the airport terminal, after baggage reclaim, holding a sign with your name. If the flight is late, the driver adjusts to the real landing time; 60 minutes of waiting are included and help with the luggage is part of the service.
Maribor is the second city of Slovenia, about 65 km south of Graz airport. The drive uses the A9 Pyhrn motorway south to the Spielfeld border crossing and then the Slovenian A1 to Maribor, in about 50 minutes. Both countries are in the Schengen area, so there are no routine border checks. A Slovenian e-vignette is required on the Slovenian motorway, and the Austrian vignette is required on the A9.
The old centre of Maribor sits on the Drava river, with Glavni trg (Main Square), the plague column and the town hall, and the Lent waterfront with the world's oldest vine, over 400 years old. The Pohorje hill above the city has a gondola and ski slopes in winter. The old centre is partly pedestrian, so the car stops on the nearest street open to traffic. The Maribor castle is on the Grajski trg square.
Public transport: No direct public connection from the airport; the usual route is via Graz Hauptbahnhof and a train or coach towards Spielfeld-Straß and Maribor.
