Costa Navarino is a resort area on the west coast of Messinia, with hotels and golf courses at Navarino Dunes near the village of Romanos and at Navarino Bay near Pylos. From the airport the road heads west across inland Messinia, through hilly olive country and small villages, then down to the coast near Gialova and north along Navarino Bay, roughly 50 km in total. The drive normally takes 45 to 55 minutes, with steady bends on the inland section.
At Navarino Dunes the hotels stand back from Romanos beach, a long sandy shore with low dunes, and the resort has its own internal roads, so cars drive to the hotel entrances. The Dunes Course golf course is inside the resort, and Voidokilia bay, a horseshoe beach below the ruins of Paleokastro, is a few kilometres south beside the Gialova lagoon, a wetland known for birdlife. Pylos town is about 15 km to the south. The area is busiest from May to October.
Public transport: No direct public service from the airport to the Costa Navarino resorts was found in official sources; KTEL Messinias airport buses run towards Kalamata.
