Stoupa is a coastal village in the outer Mani, on the eastern shore of the Messinian Gulf south of Kardamyli. From the airport the route first runs east around Kalamata and then follows the road south along the gulf, climbing above the sea past Verga and Kampos before descending through Kardamyli. The distance is about 55 km and the drive normally takes 55 to 70 minutes; the mountain section has many bends and passes through village centres.
Stoupa has two sandy bays: the main beach in front of the village and the smaller Kalogria beach to the north, linked by a short walk around the headland. Tavernas, shops and apartments line the seafront road, and cars can reach most accommodation, though the waterfront lanes are narrow and busy in July and August. Kardamyli is about 10 km north, and the village of Agios Nikolaos with its fishing harbour is a short drive south. The Taygetos peaks rise behind the village.
