Nea Peramos is a seaside town on the Gulf of Kavala, about 15 km beyond Kavala to the south-west, so from the airport the whole region is crossed from east to west. The fastest way is the Egnatia Odos motorway (A2), a tolled road that bypasses Kavala to the north, before dropping down to the coast; the alternative is through the city. The distance is around 45 to 50 km and the drive takes about 45 minutes to an hour, longer on summer weekends when the coastal road is busy.
The town lies along a long sandy bay, with a promenade of cafes and tavernas near the centre and holiday flats and hotels spreading along the beach to the west. On the low hill at the eastern end stand the walls of the Byzantine castle of Anaktoroupoli. The Ammolofi beaches, with wide sand and dunes, are a few kilometres south-west, and the neighbouring resort of Nea Iraklitsa is just to the east. Most accommodation is reachable by car right to the entrance; the town is busiest in July and August.
Public transport: No direct public service from the airport. The usual combination is the connection to Kavala via Chrysoupoli described on the airport's website and then a KTEL Kavala bus from Kavala to Nea Peramos.
