Kardamena sits on the south coast of Kos, roughly 10 km east of the airport, so it is one of the shortest transfers on the island: 10 to 15 minutes on the local road that crosses the flat southern plain. Traffic on this road is light and junctions are small. In July and August the streets around the beach fill up in the evening, which can slow the last few hundred metres to a hotel.
Kardamena has a long sandy beach, a small harbour with excursion boats to Nisyros, and a main street lined with bars, restaurants and shops. Hotels are within a short walk of the seafront or along the beach road. The nearby villages of Pyli and the Venetian-era castle of Andimachia are within a short drive. The centre is mostly flat, and the car can drop passengers at the hotel entrance or at the seafront road.
