Meeting point: The driver waits in the arrivals hall of the terminal your flight lands at (Terminal 1 or Terminal 2), just after the baggage reclaim, holding a sign with your name. Annecy is a lakeside town in Haute-Savoie, about 140 km east of Lyon airport, known for its canals, the Palais de l'Isle, the old town and Lake Annecy, one of the cleanest lakes in Europe. The drive follows the A43 towards Chambéry and then the A41 to Annecy. The old town is a pedestrian zone with canals, and the nearest road access is on the lakefront or on the Quai Perrière. In summer the lake's beaches and the Annecy to Talloires road fill up, and the winter ski traffic is heavy on the A43.
The old town of Annecy is crossed by the Thiou canal, and the Palais de l'Isle, a small medieval prison on an island, is its best-known building. The Pont des Amours leads to the lakeside gardens, the Jardins de l'Europe, and the Champ de Mars. The castle overlooks the old town from a hill. The station is about ten minutes' walk from the canals. Boat tours leave from the quays in summer, and the town has markets on several mornings of the week. In July and August the lakeside is very crowded.
Public transport instead: SNCF TER Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes train TER from Lyon Part-Dieu (after Rhônexpress from the airport) to Annecy — about 2h – 2h 20min, every 1-2 hours, 1 change. No direct service; Rhônexpress to Part-Dieu, then TER to Annecy.
