Getting from Lyon Saint-Exupéry Airport (LYS) to Chamonix takes about 2h 10min by car on an empty road (2h 10min – 2h 40min in heavy traffic) over 222 km via A 43 and A 41. Our private transfer costs €360 for a car with 1–3 passengers or €440 for a van with 4–8 — the vehicle price you see is the price you pay at booking.
On arrival: The driver waits in the arrivals hall of the terminal your flight lands at (Terminal 1 or Terminal 2), just after the baggage reclaim, holding a sign with your name. If the flight is late, the driver adjusts to the real landing time; 60 minutes of waiting are included and help with the luggage is part of the service.
Chamonix-Mont-Blanc is an alpine resort at the foot of Mont Blanc in Haute-Savoie, about 220 km from Lyon airport. The route follows the A43, A41 and the A40 motorway (the Autoroute Blanche) towards the Mont Blanc tunnel, then the Chamonix valley road. The A40 has a toll and winter snow chains may be required on the valley road, so the driver carries winter equipment between November and April. The resort centre is largely pedestrian, and vehicle access to hotels is by designated streets. Weekend skiers and summer hikers bring heavy traffic.
The centre of Chamonix is a small pedestrian-friendly town along the Arve river, with the Place Balmat and the Mont Blanc statue of Saussure and Balmat. The Aiguille du Midi cable car, which rises to 3,842 metres, starts at the edge of town, and the Montenvers rack railway climbs towards the Mer de Glace. The Brévent and Flégère lifts serve the ski slopes in winter. The railway station is within a few minutes of the centre. The ski season runs from December to April, and walkers fill the valley from June to September.
Public transport: No direct public transport; rail via Saint-Gervais-Le Fayet and the Mont-Blanc Express with several changes.
