Courchevel is a ski resort in the Tarentaise valley, part of the Three Valleys, reached from Lyon airport by the A43 to Albertville and then the N90 expressway to Moûtiers. From Moûtiers a mountain road climbs to Courchevel 1850 and the lower villages, and winter tyres or chains are mandatory on the climb. The resort centre is largely pedestrian and ski-in/ski-out, and hotels are served by narrow roads. Saturday changeover days in winter bring heavy queues on the A43 and the N90.

The peak weeks are the Christmas holidays and February. In summer the resort is quiet and walkers use the lifts.
