Ornos is a bay and beach resort on the south coast of Mykonos, about 5 km from the airport and 3 km south of Chora. The drive takes about 10 minutes via the road past the airport and down to the bay. The road is narrow near the sea and has traffic from the numerous hotel shuttles in summer. Ornos is sheltered from the north wind (meltemi), unlike the eastern beaches.
Ornos has a sandy beach with sunbeds, a small harbour with tavernas, and a long line of hotels rising up the hillside. Boats to Platis Gialos and the other southern beaches leave from the beach in season. Chora can be reached by a local bus or a short drive. The car can stop by the beach road or directly at hotel entrances, though some are on steep access roads. The bay is crowded in July and August, and quieter in May and October.
