Getting from Pisa Airport (PSA) to Siena takes about 1h 45min by car on an empty road (1h 45min – 2h 10min in heavy traffic) over 122 km via Fi-Pi-Li and SR429. Our private transfer costs €260 for a car with 1–3 passengers or €320 for a van with 4–8 — the vehicle price you see is the price you pay at booking.
On arrival: The driver waits in the arrivals hall of the Pisa airport terminal, just after the baggage reclaim, holding a sign with your name. If the flight is late, the driver adjusts to the real landing time; 60 minutes of waiting are included and help with the luggage is part of the service.
Siena is a medieval hill town about 110 km south-east of Pisa, with the Piazza del Campo, the Torre del Mangia and the striped Duomo. The drive follows the Firenze-Pisa-Livorno road (FI-PI-LI) and then the Siena-Florence dual carriageway, or the SS68 via Volterra. The historic centre is a ZTL closed to non-resident vehicles, so the driver stops at the edge of the old town. Siena is hot in summer and crowded during the Palio on 2 July and 16 August, when more roads close.
The Medici Fortress, now a park with a wine bar of regional wines, stands at the north-western edge of Siena, and from there the long Via Banchi di Sopra and Via di Città lead to the Campo. The cathedral and the Santa Maria della Scala complex stand opposite each other. The railway station is downhill, about two kilometres from the Campo, and local buses and escalators bring visitors up. Narrow lanes with stairs are common, so luggage is best carried by hand. In winter the town is cold and calm.
Public transport instead: Trenitalia train Regionale from Pisa Centrale (after PisaMover from the airport) to Siena — about 2h 10min – 2h 40min, about hourly, 2 changes. No direct train; change at Empoli.
