Keukenhof, near Lisse in the Bollenstreek, is a spring-only garden known for several million tulips, hyacinths and daffodils. From Schiphol the route is short, about 30 km along the A4 south and then the N207 into the bulb-growing region. Because Keukenhof opens for about eight weeks, spring weekends bring heavy traffic around Lisse and the final approach can stop completely. Visitors enter with a timed ticket, so drop-off and pick-up are planned around the booked slot. There is no rail connection, and the fields beside the road are private.
Keukenhof sits between Lisse and Hillegom, in the Bollenstreek, a belt of dunes and bulb fields between Haarlem and Leiden. Inside the park the gardens are laid out around ponds and woods, with covered flower shows in several pavilions. In April the region holds a flower parade, the Bloemencorso Bollenstreek, and its route can add to local traffic. The nearest larger town is Leiden, about 15 km to the south-west, and the beach town of Noordwijk lies close to the west. Outside the spring season the park is closed.
Public transport instead: Keukenhof Express (seasonal) bus 858 from Schiphol Plaza bus area to Keukenhof, seasonal, only during the tulip season (late March to mid-May). No year-round public transport; seasonal Keukenhof Express buses only.
