A private transfer from Venice Airport (VCE) to Venice city centre costs €70 per car for 1–3 passengers and €75 per van for 4–8. It is a fixed price for the whole vehicle, the same amount you pay when you book. The road distance is 14 km via SS14; the drive takes about 15 min with clear roads, so plan on 15–25 min at busy times.
Where the driver waits: The driver waits in the arrivals hall of the Marco Polo terminal, just after the baggage reclaim, holding a sign with your name. We track your flight and the first 60 minutes after landing are free; the driver helps with your luggage.
Venice's historic centre is a car-free island city in the lagoon, so no road vehicle can go beyond Piazzale Roma on the western edge, or the Tronchetto car park. The airport is at Tessera on the mainland, about 12 km north of Venice, and the road route follows the SR14 and the Ponte della Libertà. From Piazzale Roma onwards the way is by vaporetto (public waterbus), private boat or on foot, with luggage carried over bridges. A hotel in San Marco or Cannaregio is therefore reached by a short walk or a boat from Piazzale Roma.
The railway station Santa Lucia and the bus terminal at Piazzale Roma are on the western edge of the island city, and the Grand Canal winds from there to the Rialto Bridge and on to St Mark's. The Basilica and the Doge's Palace stand on Piazza San Marco at the eastern end, about 40 minutes on foot from Piazzale Roma. Cannaregio has the old Jewish Ghetto, Dorsoduro the Accademia and the Zattere promenade, and the Lido can be reached by water bus. Acqua alta can flood low areas in autumn and winter, and day visitors may pay an access fee on selected days.
Public transport instead: ATVO bus Venezia Airport Express from Aeroporto Marco Polo to Venezia Piazzale Roma — about 20–25 min, every 30 min. Alilaguna boat Blue / Orange lines from Aeroporto Marco Polo to Murano / Rialto / San Marco — about 60–90 min, about hourly.
