Zaanse Schans from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) by private transfer: €65 per car (1–3 people) or €90 per van (4–8), fixed per vehicle and identical to the checkout price. On the road it is 28 km via A10 and A4, roughly 25 min when traffic is light and 25–35 min when it is not.
Meeting point: The driver waits in the arrivals hall of Schiphol's single terminal building, just beyond the baggage reclaim and customs exit (the Schiphol Plaza side), holding a sign with your name. Flight tracking is included, the first hour after landing is free waiting time, and the driver carries your bags to the car.
Zaanse Schans is an open-air neighbourhood of working windmills, wooden houses and small museums on the bank of the River Zaan, about 15 km north of Amsterdam. The route leaves Schiphol on the A4, joins the A10 ring and passes through the Coentunnel before continuing north on the A8 towards Zaandam. The site itself is a protected heritage area with a limited number of vehicle access points, and the car park is some distance from the windmills, so the last part is a short walk along the Zaan. Spring and summer weekends bring queues on the A8 and A10.
The Zaanse Schans lies on the east bank of the Zaan in the municipality of Zaanstad and can be explored on foot in a few hours. Several windmills stand along the water, among them De Kat, De Zoeker and De Gekroonde Poelenburg, and they were used for dye, oil and sawing timber. Next to them are a cheese farm, a clog workshop and the Zaans Museum. Walking the paths is free, while the mills and museums charge entry. The site is busiest around midday from spring to early autumn, and quieter in winter, when some buildings keep shorter hours.
Public transport instead: NS train Sprinter from Amsterdam Sloterdijk (change from Schiphol train) to Koog aan de Zaan / Koog-Zaandijk — about 40–55 min, several per hour, 1 change. No direct public transport; train via Amsterdam Sloterdijk to Koog aan de Zaan, then walk about 15 minutes.
