Getting from Athens Airport (ATH) to Cape Sounion takes about 55 min by car on an empty road (55–70 min in heavy traffic) over 47 km via EO89. Our private transfer costs €80 for a car with 1–3 passengers or €110 for a van with 4–8 — the vehicle price you see is the price you pay at booking.
On arrival: The driver waits in the arrivals hall of the airport's main terminal building, after baggage reclaim and the customs exit, holding a sign with your name. If the flight is late, the driver adjusts to the real landing time; 60 minutes of waiting are included and help with the luggage is part of the service.
Cape Sounion is the southern tip of Attica, about 70 km from the airport, with the Temple of Poseidon on the headland. The route runs on the Attiki Odos and the Athens-Sounion coastal road via Vouliagmeni, Varkiza, Lagonisi and Anavyssos, with sea views most of the way. Weekend and summer traffic along the coast road is slow, and the car park at the temple is small, so stops there are short.
The archaeological site sits on a cliff above the sea with the Temple of Poseidon as its main monument, and the ticket office and car park are at the entrance. Sunset visits are the busiest, particularly from May to September. Below the site is a small bay with tavernas and a beach. Along the road back to Athens are the seaside areas of Anavyssos, Lagonisi and Vouliagmeni, which are common stops for lunch or a swim.
Public transport: No direct public transport from the airport. The usual route is to reach central Athens first (metro Line 3 or bus X95) and continue on a regional coastal KTEL Attica bus to Sounion.
