Getting from Basel Airport (MLH) to Colmar takes about 45 min by car on an empty road (45–55 min in heavy traffic) over 60 km via A 35. Our private transfer costs €150 for a car with 1–3 passengers or €210 for a van with 4–8 — the vehicle price you see is the price you pay at booking.
On arrival: EuroAirport has one terminal divided into a Swiss sector and a French sector. Unless another exit is agreed in your booking, the driver waits in the arrivals area on Level 2 of the Swiss sector, after the Swiss customs exit, holding a sign with your name. If the flight is late, the driver adjusts to the real landing time; 60 minutes of waiting are included and help with the luggage is part of the service.
Colmar is the main town of the southern Alsace wine country, around 60 km north of the airport on the French side of the Rhine. The route follows the A35 motorway north from Saint-Louis, passes Mulhouse and runs along the plain between the Vosges foothills and the Rhine, with the vineyards visible to the west near the end of the trip. The drive normally takes about 45 minutes. The A35 through Alsace carries no toll, and in December traffic into Colmar is heavier during the Christmas markets.
The historic centre of Colmar is compact and largely pedestrian: the canal quarter known as Little Venice, the old covered market, the Koifhus customs house and the Unterlinden Museum are all within a short walk of each other. Cars stop on the ring of streets around the old town, from where most hotels are a few minutes on foot. The railway station lies about 1 km west of the centre. Wine villages such as Eguisheim, Kaysersberg and Riquewihr are within 5 to 15 km of the town.
Public transport instead: Distribus bus 11 from EuroAirport, terminal forecourt (Arrivals Zone, French sector) to Saint-Louis SNCF station — about 10–15 min, €3.00 single ticket, every 15 to 30 min, 05:00 to midnight (3 EUR ticket by SMS). TER Grand Est (SNCF) train Basel - Mulhouse - Strasbourg from Saint-Louis SNCF station to Colmar station, every 30 min. No direct public service from the airport; take Distribus bus 11 from the French sector to Saint-Louis station, then a direct TER Grand Est train to Colmar (one change).
