Getting from Cagliari Airport (CAG) to Chia takes about 1h 15min by car on an empty road (1h 15min – 1h 35min in heavy traffic) over 63 km via SS195bis and SS195. Our private transfer costs €130 for a car with 1–3 passengers or €180 for a van with 4–8 — the vehicle price you see is the price you pay at booking.
On arrival: The driver waits in the arrivals hall of the passenger terminal at Cagliari Elmas, after baggage reclaim, holding a sign with your name. If the flight is late, the driver adjusts to the real landing time; 60 minutes of waiting are included and help with the luggage is part of the service.
Chia is a coastal area in the municipality of Domus de Maria on the south coast, known for its dunes, the Torre di Chia watchtower and lagoons with flamingos. The road from the airport runs south-west on the SS195 Sulcitana past Capoterra, Sarroch and Pula, then turns off towards the coast; the last part winds between hills and scrub. On summer weekends the SS195 is slow around Pula and the Chia turn-off.
Chia has no real town centre: hotels, resorts and holiday villages are spread behind the beaches of Su Giudeu, Sa Colonia, Campana and Cala Cipolla, with small shops near the main road junction. The tower stands on a headland between Sa Colonia and Su Giudeu, and Capo Spartivento with its lighthouse is a few kilometres west. Most accommodation can be reached by car to the door, while some beaches are reached on foot through the dunes.
Public transport instead: Trenitalia train Elmas Aeroporto – Cagliari from Elmas Aeroporto station (short walk from the terminal) to Cagliari railway station — about 6 min, €1.30 single ticket. ARST bus 129 Cagliari – Pula – Chia – Teulada – Sant'Anna Arresi from Cagliari Autostazione ARST (after the train from Elmas Aeroporto to Cagliari) to Chia (Chia Bivio / Bar Tabacchi stops) — about 65–75 min, several runs a day, see the ARST timetable, 1 change. No direct public transport from the airport: train to Cagliari, then ARST bus line 129 via Pula.
