Meeting point: The driver waits in the arrivals hall of the airport terminal, after baggage reclaim and the exit from customs, holding a sign with your name. Flight tracking is included, the first hour after landing is free waiting time, and the driver carries your bags to the car.
Platanias is a seaside resort about 12 km west of Chania, on the old coastal road and the new national road along the north coast (E75). The drive from the airport goes around Chania on the bypass and takes about 25 minutes, without tolls. In July and August, traffic on the main road through Platanias, Agia Marina and Gerani is heavy in the evening, when the beach promenade fills with visitors.
Platanias is a long strip of hotels, tavernas and a sandy beach that continues west into Agia Marina and Gerani. The village centre has a pedestrian-friendly seafront and the small island of Agioi Theodoroi (Thodorou) is visible offshore. Many hotels are within a few minutes of the coastal road, and drop-off is possible right at the entrance. Nearby are the Venetian harbour of Chania to the east and the Maleme war cemetery to the west.
Public transport: No direct public connection from the airport. The usual route is the KTEL airport bus to Chania bus station and then a local KTEL bus west along the coast to Platanias.
