Where the driver waits: The driver waits in the arrivals area of the Peretola terminal, just after the baggage reclaim, holding a sign with your name. We track your flight and the first 60 minutes after landing are free; the driver helps with your luggage.
Florence is the capital of Tuscany, with the Duomo and Baptistery, the Ponte Vecchio and the Uffizi. The airport is about 5 km north-west of the centre, linked by the A11 and the viali (ring avenues). The historic centre is a large ZTL, and the area around the Duomo, Piazza della Signoria and Ponte Vecchio is pedestrian, so the driver stops at the nearest permitted street. Florence has a lot of narrow streets, and the last stretch to a hotel near the Duomo is usually on foot. Summer queues at the Uffizi and the Duomo are long.
The historic centre of Florence is small enough to cross on foot in about twenty minutes. The Duomo with the Baptistery and Giotto's bell tower stands in the middle, with Piazza della Signoria and the Uffizi a few minutes to the south and the Ponte Vecchio just beyond. Across the Arno, the Oltrarno district holds the Pitti Palace and the Boboli Gardens. The station Santa Maria Novella is north-west of the Duomo, about ten minutes' walk, and the San Lorenzo market is on the way. Summer brings heavy crowds and heat.
Public transport instead: GEST tram Tramvia T2 from Aeroporto to Unità / Santa Maria Novella — about 17–25 min, every 4-10 min.
