Braunschweig from Hannover Airport (HAJ) by private transfer: €180 per car (1–3 people) or €220 per van (4–8), fixed per vehicle and identical to the checkout price. On the road it is 70 km via A 2 and B 214, roughly 55 min when traffic is light and 55–70 min when it is not.
Meeting point: Hannover Airport has three terminals, A, B and C, and the arrivals board shows which one your flight uses. The driver waits on the Arrivals level of that terminal, at the exit from the baggage reclaim area, holding a sign with your name. Flight tracking is included, the first hour after landing is free waiting time, and the driver carries your bags to the car.
Braunschweig is the second-largest city of Lower Saxony, about 70 km east of the airport. The route joins the A2 motorway, the main east-west link between the Ruhr and Berlin, and follows it past Peine to the Braunschweig junctions. The drive usually takes 50 minutes to an hour. The A2 carries heavy lorry traffic and roadworks are frequent, so journeys can take longer on weekday afternoons and before holidays; no toll applies to cars.
The historic heart of Braunschweig is the Burgplatz, where Dankwarderode Castle, the cathedral and the bronze lion statue recall Henry the Lion, who made the town his residence in the 12th century. Nearby lie the Altstadtmarkt with the Gothic Old Town Hall and the Magniviertel, a quarter of half-timbered houses. The pedestrian zone covers much of the centre, so cars drop off on the ring roads around it. The main railway station is south-east of the old town, about 1.5 km from the Burgplatz.
Public transport instead: S-Bahn Hannover train S5 from Hannover Flughafen station (basement of Terminal C) to Hannover Hauptbahnhof — about 17–18 min. Deutsche Bahn (ICE / regional trains) train Hannover Hbf - Braunschweig Hbf from Hannover Hauptbahnhof to Braunschweig Hauptbahnhof — about 35–58 min. No direct public service from the airport; take S-Bahn S5 to Hannover Hauptbahnhof and change there to a train to Braunschweig Hauptbahnhof (one change).
