Getting from Hannover Airport (HAJ) to Hildesheim takes about 40 min by car on an empty road (40–50 min in heavy traffic) over 52 km via A 7 and A 2. Our private transfer costs €150 for a car with 1–3 passengers or €210 for a van with 4–8 — the vehicle price you see is the price you pay at booking.
On arrival: Hannover Airport has three terminals, A, B and C, and the arrivals board shows which one your flight uses. The driver waits on the Arrivals level of that terminal, at the exit from the baggage reclaim area, holding a sign with your name. If the flight is late, the driver adjusts to the real landing time; 60 minutes of waiting are included and help with the luggage is part of the service.
Hildesheim is a cathedral city about 50 km south-east of the airport. The route uses the motorways around Hannover and then the A7, the long north-south motorway from Hamburg towards Kassel, leaving it at one of the Hildesheim exits. The drive normally takes 40 to 45 minutes. The A7 between Hannover and Hildesheim carries a lot of through traffic and holiday traffic in summer; there is no toll for cars on German motorways.
St. Mary's Cathedral and St. Michael's Church in Hildesheim are on the UNESCO World Heritage list, and the cathedral is known for the old rose bush growing on its apse. The rebuilt Market Square with the tall half-timbered Butchers' Guild Hall lies between the two churches, a short walk from each. Parts of the old town are pedestrian, so cars stop on the nearby streets. The main railway station is on the northern edge of the centre, under 1 km from the Market Square.
Public transport instead: S-Bahn Hannover train S5 from Hannover Flughafen station (basement of Terminal C) to Hannover Hauptbahnhof — about 17–18 min. S-Bahn Hannover train S4 from Hannover Hauptbahnhof to Hildesheim. No direct public service from the airport; take S-Bahn S5 to Hannover Hauptbahnhof and change to S-Bahn S4 to Hildesheim (one change).
