Getting from Heraklion Airport (HER) to Agios Nikolaos takes about 1h by car on an empty road (60–70 min in heavy traffic) over 60 km via A90. Our private transfer costs €140 for a car with 1–3 passengers or €200 for a van with 4–8 — the vehicle price you see is the price you pay at booking.
On arrival: The driver waits in the arrivals hall of the airport terminal, after baggage reclaim and the customs exit, holding a sign with your name. If the flight is late, the driver adjusts to the real landing time; 60 minutes of waiting are included and help with the luggage is part of the service.
Agios Nikolaos is a resort town on the Gulf of Mirabello, about 70 km east of the airport. The drive uses the new national road (VOAK) eastwards via Malia and Neapoli, taking about 1 hour. The road is a mix of dual carriageway and two-lane road with winding sections near Neapoli. Traffic is heavier in July and August, particularly on Saturdays when many flights land.
The centre of Agios Nikolaos is arranged around the small Lake Voulismeni, linked to the sea by a canal, and the harbour with its waterfront restaurants. Hotels are on the slopes above the town and in the nearby resorts of Ammoudi and Kitroplatia. The streets near the lake and the harbour are narrow and often congested, so the car stops at the nearest open street. The island of Spinalonga and the village of Kritsa are reached by short trips from the town.
Public transport: No direct public bus from the airport; the usual route is bus 78 to Heraklion bus station and a KTEL Lasithi coach to Agios Nikolaos.
