Knossos from Heraklion Airport (HER) by private transfer: €25 per car (1–3 people) or €45 per van (4–8), fixed per vehicle and identical to the checkout price. On the road it is 8 km, roughly 10 min when traffic is light and 10–20 min when it is not.
Meeting point: The driver waits in the arrivals hall of the airport terminal, after baggage reclaim and the customs exit, holding a sign with your name. Flight tracking is included, the first hour after landing is free waiting time, and the driver carries your bags to the car.
Knossos is the main Minoan palace site of Crete, about 5 km south of Heraklion centre and 10 km from the airport. The drive crosses the south-east part of the city and takes 20 to 30 minutes. The road to the site is busy in the morning when tour groups arrive. Roads next to the site are narrow, and the car park is a short walk from the entrance.
The palace of Knossos stands on a hill and is the largest Bronze Age archaeological site on Crete. The site includes the reconstructed Throne Room, the North Entrance and the Royal Road. Visits take 1.5 to 2 hours, and the heat is strong from June to August, so the morning is quieter and cooler. Most visitors combine Knossos with the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion, where the frescoes and the Phaistos Disc are shown. The ticket office is at the car park entrance.
Public transport: No direct public bus from the airport; the usual route is bus 78 to the city centre and the local bus to Knossos from the city centre.
