Getting from Catania Airport (CTA) to Syracuse takes about 45 min by car on an empty road (45–60 min in heavy traffic) over 62 km via Autostrada Catania-Siracusa and SS114. Our private transfer costs €150 for a car with 1–3 passengers or €210 for a van with 4–8 — the vehicle price you see is the price you pay at booking.
On arrival: The driver waits in the arrivals hall of the Fontanarossa terminal, just after the baggage reclaim, holding a sign with your name. If the flight is late, the driver adjusts to the real landing time; 60 minutes of waiting are included and help with the luggage is part of the service.
Syracuse (Siracusa) lies about 65 km south of Catania on the Ionian coast, known for the Neapolis Archaeological Park with its Greek Theatre and the island of Ortigia. The route follows the A18/E45 motorway and the SS114 coastal road. Ortigia is a ZTL and mostly pedestrian, linked to the mainland by two bridges, so the driver stops at the nearest permitted street, or at the car parks at the entrance to the island. Summer weekends are busy, and Via Roma and Piazza Duomo on the island are crowded.
Syracuse has two parts: the island of Ortigia, with the Piazza Duomo, where the cathedral incorporates the columns of a Greek temple, and the mainland, where the Neapolis Archaeological Park lies. On Ortigia the Fountain of Arethusa is on the seafront, the Castello Maniace stands at the southern tip and a food market opens every morning. The Greek Theatre and the Ear of Dionysius are in the Neapolis park, about two kilometres from the station. Classical dramas are staged at the Greek Theatre in spring and early summer.
Public transport instead: Trenitalia train Regionale from Catania Centrale (after Alibus from the airport) to Siracusa — about 65–85 min, about hourly, 1 change.
