Plaka is a long beach area on the south-west coast of Naxos, beyond Agia Anna, about 8 to 10 km from the airport. The drive continues south along the coastal road through Agios Prokopios and Agia Anna and takes around 15 to 20 minutes. The paved road along Plaka runs a little behind the dunes, and some side tracks to individual properties are narrow or unsealed. There is no village centre, and the area is quiet outside the summer months.
Plaka beach stretches for several kilometres of sand backed by dunes and juniper bushes, with beach bars and tavernas spaced out along it. Accommodation is scattered: small hotels, studios and campsites sit at intervals along the road, often a few hundred metres apart, so a car is the practical way to reach the door. To the north the beach joins Maragkas and Agia Anna, and to the south it ends near Orkos, with Mikri Vigla further on. The bus terminates at Plaka in the season.
