Getting from Palermo Airport (PMO) to Agrigento takes about 2h 15min by car on an empty road (2h 15min – 2h 50min in heavy traffic) over 161 km via SS189 and SS121. Our private transfer costs €240 for a car with 1–3 passengers or €300 for a van with 4–8 — the vehicle price you see is the price you pay at booking.
On arrival: The driver waits in the arrivals hall of the Punta Raisi terminal, just after the baggage reclaim, holding a sign with your name. If the flight is late, the driver adjusts to the real landing time; 60 minutes of waiting are included and help with the luggage is part of the service.
Agrigento lies on Sicily's south coast, about 130 km from Palermo, known for the Valley of the Temples, a UNESCO-listed park of Doric temples. The route follows the SS121 and the SS189 across the interior, partly on fast roads, taking around two hours. The temples' car parks are at the park entrances, and cars cannot drive between the temples. Summer heat in the valley is intense, so visits are often early in the morning or in the evening, and the town on the hill is a ZTL.
The Valley of the Temples is a long archaeological ridge south of the town, and the temples of Concordia, Juno and Heracles stand along the Via Sacra in the eastern part. The Temple of Concordia is the best preserved. Beyond lies the western zone with the remains of the Temple of Zeus, and the Kolymbetra garden is in a sheltered hollow. The archaeological museum is near the park, and the town above has the Via Atenea. Almond trees bloom in late winter, and midsummer is very hot.
Public transport instead: Autolinee Cuffaro / Sais coach intercity coach from Palermo Autostazione (after the airport train) to Agrigento — about 2h – 2h 30min, several per day, 1 change.
