A private transfer from Palermo Airport (PMO) to Palermo city centre costs €50 per car for 1–3 passengers and €95 per van for 4–8. It is a fixed price for the whole vehicle, the same amount you pay when you book. The road distance is 34 km via A29 and A29racc/bis; the drive takes about 40 min with clear roads, so plan on 40–50 min at busy times.
Where the driver waits: The driver waits in the arrivals hall of the Punta Raisi terminal, just after the baggage reclaim, holding a sign with your name. We track your flight and the first 60 minutes after landing are free; the driver helps with your luggage.
Palermo, the capital of Sicily, has an old city that mixes Arab-Norman, Baroque and Byzantine buildings, including the Cappella Palatina and the Quattro Canti crossroads. The airport at Punta Raisi is about 30 km west of the centre, joined by the A29 motorway. The centre has a ZTL and narrow streets in the Kalsa and Ballarò districts, so the driver stops at the nearest permitted street. Traffic is heavy in the centre, and the A29 slows in rush hours. Santa Rosalia's Festino in July closes the main avenues.
The old city is organised around the Quattro Canti crossroads, where Via Maqueda crosses Corso Vittorio Emanuele, with Piazza Pretoria and the cathedral nearby. The Palazzo dei Normanni with the Cappella Palatina is at the western end of the Corso, and the Teatro Massimo stands on the north side of Via Maqueda. The markets of Ballarò and the Vucciria are in the old streets, and Palermo Centrale station lies at the southern end of Via Roma. The beach of Mondello is about ten kilometres north. The Festino of Santa Rosalia is held in mid-July.
Public transport instead: Trenitalia train Trinacria Express from Palermo Aeroporto (Punta Raisi) to Palermo Centrale — about 35–50 min, every 30 min. Prestia e Comandè bus airport coach from Aeroporto Falcone-Borsellino to Palermo Politeama / Stazione Centrale — about 50–60 min, every 30 min.
