Nidri is the main resort on the east coast of Lefkada, about 17 km south of Lefkada town. From the airport the route first reaches the island over the causeway and floating bridge by the Santa Maura fortress, skirts the edge of Lefkada town and then follows the coast road south through Lygia and Nikiana, with the mainland mountains across the water to the left. In high summer the bridge crossing and the road through the villages are the slowest sections, as the bridge opens on the hour for boats.
Nidri spreads along a sheltered bay facing the small wooded islands of Madouri and Skorpios. The main road runs through the village, with hotels, shops and tavernas along it, while the seafront promenade and quay, where excursion boats and the ferries to Meganisi depart, lie below it and are largely pedestrian. Across the bay on the Agia Kyriaki peninsula is the grave of the archaeologist Wilhelm Dorpfeld. Inland, a short drive and walk lead to the Dimosari waterfalls, and the deep inlet of Vlycho opens just to the south.
Public transport: No direct public service from the airport; the usual route is the passing KTEL Lefkada bus from the airport to Lefkada town and then the KTEL Lefkada local line Lefkada - Lygia - Nikiana - Nydri (Mon-Fri 7 departures from Lefkada, Sat 5, Sun 3 in the timetable archived 21 January 2025); fares on the island lines are 2.00-3.80 EUR according to KTEL Lefkada, the exact fare is not stated.
