On arrival: The driver waits in the arrivals hall of the passenger terminal at Keflavík Airport, after baggage reclaim and the customs exit, holding a sign with your name. If the flight is late, the driver adjusts to the real landing time; 60 minutes of waiting are included and help with the luggage is part of the service.
Þingvellir National Park lies in a rift valley north-east of Reykjavík, about 90 km from Keflavík Airport. The drive follows Route 41 to the capital area, then Route 1, Vesturlandsvegur, north past Mosfellsbær, where Route 36, Þingvallavegur, turns east over the Mosfellsheiði moorland down to the park. Þingvellir was the site of Iceland's parliament, the Alþingi, from around 930, and it is part of the Golden Circle route. Mosfellsheiði is a high, exposed stretch where winter snow and ice can slow the drive.
The main visitor centre and viewpoint, Hakið, stands on the western rim of the Almannagjá gorge, from where a footpath leads down through the rift to the Lögberg (Law Rock) and the Öxarárfoss waterfall. A second service centre with parking is further north-east by Route 36. Silfra, a fissure known for diving and snorkelling, is close to the lake shore. Parking fees apply at the busier car parks near the main sights. Lake Þingvallavatn, Iceland's largest natural lake, fills the southern part of the valley.
Public transport: There is no scheduled public bus from Keflavík Airport to Þingvellir National Park; the park is reached by road via Reykjavík and Route 36.
