Kokkari is a former fishing village on the north coast of Samos, around 10 km west of Samos Town. From the airport the route first crosses the east of the island towards the Vathy bay area and then turns west onto the north coast road that continues to Karlovasi. The total distance is roughly 25 km and the drive normally takes 30 to 35 minutes. The coastal section runs close to the sea with some bends, and in summer the road through Kokkari is busy in the evenings.
The village sits on two small rocky headlands with a harbour between them, where tavernas line the quayside. The main village beach faces north and is often windy, which makes it popular with windsurfers. West of the village, the coast road leads to the pebble coves of Lemonakia and Tsamadou, both within walking distance. Above Kokkari, roads climb into the green hills to the mountain villages of Vourliotes and Manolates. Most hotels and apartments are along the main road or in the lanes behind the waterfront, where cars can reach most entrances.
Public transport: No direct public service from the airport; the usual combination is the KTEL airport bus to Samos Town and the KTEL Samos - Kokkari bus (Mon-Fri 08:30, 11:00, 12:20, 14:00, 17:00, 18:00; Sat 08:30, 14:00, 17:00 in the timetable dated 24 May 2023); fares are not stated in the source.
