Pythagorio from Samos Airport (SMI) by private transfer: €45 per car (1–3 people) or €65 per van (4–8), fixed per vehicle and identical to the checkout price. On the road it is 3 km, roughly 10 min when traffic is light and 10–20 min when it is not.
Meeting point: The driver waits in the arrivals hall of the Samos airport terminal, after baggage reclaim and the exit, holding a sign with your name. Flight tracking is included, the first hour after landing is free waiting time, and the driver carries your bags to the car.
Pythagorio is the harbour town closest to the airport, only a few kilometres to the east along the south coast, so the drive usually takes 5 to 10 minutes. The road runs past the end of the runway and the long Potokaki beach before entering the town. Pythagorio stands on the site of the ancient city of Samos, and together with the Heraion it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Because the town is so close to the runway, aircraft noise can be heard on the approach side in the daytime.
The heart of Pythagorio is its horseshoe harbour, lined with tavernas and cafes and used by fishing boats, yachts and excursion boats. On the low hill at the western edge of the harbour stand the Lykourgos Logothetis castle and the Church of the Transfiguration. The Tunnel of Eupalinos, a 6th-century BC aqueduct cut through the hill behind the town, is a short drive uphill, as is the cave monastery of Panagia Spiliani. Hotels are spread between the harbour lanes and the Potokaki beach road; the streets right at the harbour are narrow.
Public transport instead: KTEL Samos bus Airport - Pythagoreio - Samos from Bus stop in front of the airport terminal to Pythagorio, only the airport buses routed via Pythagoreio (the airport states that buses run to Samos Town via Pythagoreio or via Mytilinioi; the timetable does not say which departures take which route).
