Getting from Sofia Airport (SOF) to Borovets takes about 1h 50min by car on an empty road (1h 50min – 2h 20min in heavy traffic) over 71 km via 82. Our private transfer costs €75 for a car with 1–3 passengers or €110 for a van with 4–8 — the vehicle price you see is the price you pay at booking.
On arrival: The driver waits in the arrivals hall of the terminal your flight lands at (Terminal 1 or Terminal 2), after baggage reclaim and the customs exit, holding a sign with your name. If the flight is late, the driver adjusts to the real landing time; 60 minutes of waiting are included and help with the luggage is part of the service.
Borovets is Bulgaria's oldest mountain resort, set in pine forest on the northern slopes of the Rila range, about 70 km south-east of the airport. The road leaves Sofia past Pancharevo, follows the Iskar valley and the shore of the Iskar reservoir, then climbs through the town of Samokov to the resort. It is a two-lane mountain road for most of the way, so the drive takes well over an hour, and on winter weekends traffic towards the ski area builds up around Samokov.
Borovets lies at about 1,350 m and grew from a royal hunting retreat once known as Chamkoria. Its hotels line the main road and the area around the central square, close to the base of the ski runs and the gondola that climbs towards Yastrebets; Musala, the highest peak of the Balkan Peninsula, rises above the resort. Hotels can usually be reached directly by car, and the resort is small enough to walk across. The ski season runs mainly from December to April, while summer brings hikers heading into the Rila mountains.
Public transport instead: Metropolitan Sofia metro M4 + M2 from Sofia Airport metro station (Terminal 2) to Central Railway Station (change at Serdika); Central Bus Station is next to it, €0.80 single ticket, 1 change. No direct public transport from the airport to Borovets. The airport's metro reaches central Sofia and the Central Bus Station (M4, change to M2 at Serdika); onward connections run via Samokov.
